Surfing in Saltburn
 
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is probably the North East’s best known surf spot, listed in the top 10 places to surf in the UK. The surfing conditions in Saltburn make it a great place for learning to surf, and for experts to progress.
 
There are plenty of places to hire surf gear and if you’re new to the sport or want to progress your skills there are surfing schools that offer lessons.
 
Scaling Dam Sailing Club (SDSC) and activities
 
Set within the North York Moors National Park, Scaling Dam is a great place for water sports. Activities available include: open water swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, and learning to sail.
 
Tees Barrage
 
For the more adventurous water sport lovers Tees Barrage is a short drive away. The Tees Barrage, across the river, is used to control the flow of the river, preventing flooding and the effects of tidal change. If you’re a water-loving thrill seeker, you will find the following here: white water rafting, canoeing, windsurfing, water skiing, sailing, powerboat racing.
